This magnificent Summer estate on Long Island Sound belonged to the late Edward S. Harkness family. In order to provide recreational opportunities for Connecticutıs citizens with disabilities, Mary Stillman Harkness bequeathed the estate to the State of Connecticut. The 42 room Italianate mansion and formal gardens were reopened in 1998 after a $3.5 million restoration. The mansion is open for tours during the summer months.
